At Milby Nursery and Kids′ Club we adopt the ′Keyperson approach′. This is the way in which each child develops a strong relationship with an adult at the nursery to support their emotional well-being. It is important for the child whilst they are away from their parents/carers that they know someone in particular is there to take care of them. The keyperson builds a sense of trust, gets to know the child well, supports and interacts with them to build up their confidence and well being.
It is the keyperson′s role to also build relationships with the child′s parent/carer, family and other key carers (e.g. child minder or keyperson from another setting) to share information to support the child′s continuity of care and well being. Each keyperson works alongside another in partnership groups to ensure the child has a keyperson in the event of holidays, sickness or training.
